We had some good neighbors over with the kids and Abi (who always makes amazing cocktails and drinks) brought over a pitcher of delicious spiked holiday eggnog. I am not sure exactly what she put in it, but I tried replicating the flavors and mmm… was it delicious!!!
Holiday Eggnog with Grand Marnier
Serves 4
6 large egg yolks
3/4 cup sugar
2 1/2 cups milk (for a richer version, use half-n-half or cream)
1/2 cup Grand Marnier
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 orange, the grated zest
Beat egg yolks and sugar in medium saucepan. Slowly beat in 2 cups of the milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until thermometer registers 150°F or mixture coats the back of the metal spoon.
Remove from heat; strain into pitcher. Stir in remaining milk (or cream), Grand Marnier, vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon. Cover and chill at least 8 hours or overnight. Before serving, stir in the orange zest. Sprinkle with additional nutmeg. You can always add more liqueur (more Grand Marnier or Bourbon, Brandy, Rum…).
Have yourseelves a merry merry holiday!!!
