Tuscan wine and olive oil cookies (Ciambellinne al vino)
| February 23, 2010 | Posted by ameliaps under any season, cookies, dessert, sweets |
The Italian expression “finire a tarallucci e vino” (literally, “ending with cookies and wine”) means to end up good friends and close things happily (e.g. an evening). These wine cookies (a.k.a. ciambelline or tarallucci) are perfect to make anyone happy, anytime. They are my sister Paola’s specialty: she actually does not measure anything, just uses a glass to eye-ball the ingredients… more

I follow her daily and always learn something. I especially love her ”What I am reading today” posts. BTW, check out her new Cooking from the Farmers’ market… more

Ok, so first of all I have only lived in the US for 12 years so I did not grow up on chocolate chip cookies. When I first came here I just could not understand what the fuss was about these simple and rather ugly cookies. Then I baked my own batch and ate them… more

My husband and I enjoy cooking a romantic dinner for each other, when we can get the kids to go for a sleep-over at grandma’s. So we did, this past week-end. An understated yet satisfying dinner. The fun was learning a new technique together, sipping Veuve Clicquot in the process. For Christams I had received Ad Hoc At home, Thomas Keller’s… more

My kids love taco night. Sometimes it’s beef, sometimes chicken, but our favorite of all is fish. It’s so much fun to assemble your own taco with your choice of toppings. It makes for a fun family dinner: simple and quick but very gratifying.I make my own spice mix: it takes just a few minutes and it tastes… more

My volunteering group gets together to discuss our fundraising goals and other activities, but in the process we enjoy a glass of wine and good food. My grandmother’s (nonna Paola) recipe. There are many versions of this cake around Italy, but of course I like my nonna’s one. It’s light and delicious at any time of the day. We used to have it for breakfast, dipped in cold milk. You can also make it with orange instead of lemon. You can… more

There’s nothing that makes the house smell more delicious and cozy than the scent of fresh baked bread…and what is more sensual than buttery brioche bread?
