Hello friends:
Happy Friday to all of you
(The previous photo Fridays: #1 here, #2 here., #3 here and #4 here, #5 here, #6 here, #7 here, #8 here, #9 here, #10 here, #11 here, #12 here)
It’s been a hard week as I have been battling with a tough ear infection… but I still found time and energy to catch the light.
I learned a good story: the hibiscus flower opens each morning, lasts for one single day, as if it were going to last forever, then closes and dies. The next morning a new flower blooms opens and repeats the pattern. We can only live our lives one day at a time, uncertain of what tomorrow may bring. A beautiful reminder to live every day to the fullest, savoring each moment, leaving no meaningful task un-done, gracefully seeking the eternal and ignoring the trivial.
The surprising source for this story was the cartoon Kung-Fu Panda! Corollary of the story: you can learn something interesting in unexpected places!

well, summer is finally here… the heat has the mosquitoes mating and everything has a warm haze

…maybe that’s why I got a sick and had to head to the ENT doctor

the morning light has been glorious

I love a bit of Americana in my life

some American food too, like these two classics: crab legs with corn and key lime pie

Over my morning coffee, I have been California dreaming (as we are planning a trip out West):

Testing my hand at B&W photography, playing with strong contrast:

The pool:

First cherries: fresh and in a lemonade

Two favorite eats: a brunch spot and a dinner patio

Horses and apples

Dining outside at night

Random houses:

And some urban scenes:

A simple salad of avocado, onions and tomatoes plus a pear popover:

My home made cappuccino for breakfast (I use the blender to froth up the warm milk):

An authentic Korean barbeque place we love:

The glory of summer on trees:

and gardenias from my garden:

Some geometric looking plants:

Street signs that caught my eye:

Today my hibiscus tree is full of closed buds, but when it’s in full bloom, it’s a WOW! I drink red hibiscus tea regularly for my high blood pressure, so it’s beauty is fleeting but it’s health benefits are long-lasting. I hope you feel better soon Amelia!
Donna: thanks for sharing the curative properties of the red hibiscus tea… i will have to get some to help me recover!
You must never go anywhere without your camera….how lucky for us!
Steve: now that I have instagram on my phone, you are right: I go nowhere without my camera!
I really like your lessons learned, and your pool attire is darling. I hope you feel better soon. Take care, Denise
Denise: I am inspired to plant a hibiscus plant in my backyard for a daily reminder…
I am really enjoying all your pics on Instagram… lovely. If you come over to my place I have a little something for you!
glad you do! (now I am curious about the surprise…)
It’s time you explored taking these Friday Photos to a gallery. They are like poetry. GREG
Greg: aw, thanks! I did a gallery show with my photography a couple years ago… but since it is not my main occupation I let come and go by. I would love to do it again, with my new inspirations!
Beautiful, Amelia. Hope you’re feeling better.
Michele: thanks for asking…feeling better after some time off, fortunately.
